Location, Props, Models and Costumes

Locations
I’ll mainly use the studio for my images because I want to be able to cut the image out and change the background. I will however take some at an Enter Shikari gig during December that I intend on using. This is ideal because it’s an actual gig and so would make my magazine look more genuine. Also, I’ll take some of myself at my mother’s office for the editor’s note photo, using the office scene as a background in order to make it appear as though I’m working on an actual magazine in the magazine offices.

Props
I don’t plan on using any props in my photos because if I use props, they may take the focus off of the models, plus, I don’t need them.

Models
I’m going to use three models (not including myself and the pictures I’m going to take at the Enter Shikari gig). Alex, Samantha and Sophie. I’m trying to use a range of male and females in order to appeal to both a male and female audience. Plus, all my models are young because I am aiming at a younger audience (15-25 year old)

Costumes
I’m going to ask my models to wear clothes they would usually wear on a normal day because I want my audience to see their differences. My audience is going to made up of a lot of different people so I want to use a lot of variety in the content of my magazines, which includes the models who are all very different.

Information on Magazine Publishers

IPC Media
IPC focus on a very wide range of magazines intended for different age groups, genders and classes. They also own both niche and mass market magazines which made them the second largest magazine publisher in 2008. They publish magazines like NME, Chat, House and Hound, Teen Now, Yachting and Nuts. From this small sample you can see that they have a magazine for everyone.

Bauer Media
Bauer are very similar to IPC in the sense that they have a very wide range of magazines on offer. Their publishing ranges from Heat to Match to Golf to Kerrang! to Country Walking. They were the largest magazine publishers in 2008 because of the focus in magazines whose target audience ranges in class, gender and age and the range in niche and mass market magazines.

Future PLC
Future PLC mainly concentrate on magazine aimed at the male target audience, but still ranging in age, class, niche and mass market magazines. They publish magazines like Cycling, T3, Nintendo and Guitarist.

Conde Nast
Conde Nast mainly focus on magazines with the target audience of middle-class women, representing magazines such as Vogue, Tatler and Glamour. These magazines are all aimed at the middle-class woman and they rarely branch from this.

Original Ideas Statement

My music magazine is going to be aimed at a younger target audience aged from 15-25. They will also be interested in rock music and will have a high level of passion for the music they like. I will advertise mainly gigs and places that sell music, such as HMV, in my magazine because my audience are going to have an interest in going to gigs and purchasing music. I’m planning on the magazine being just about music and for it to not be crossed over with a different theme, although my target audience will probably have an interest in other creative past-times.
